Shireen is your typical Indian-Trinidadian Canadian, Muslim American, if there’s anything particularly typical about that. She was born in Canada, mostly raised in Fort Worth, Texas, and is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. She started her professional life with a career in advertising that took her from Texas to New York City.

She finally moved to Los Angeles in 2006 to pursue her dream of writing for television and was soon thereafter admitted to the CBS Writers Mentoring Program. During her television career, she has written for NBC’s Trauma, JJ Abrams’ Undercovers, Kevin Williamson’s The Secret Circle, TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles, SyFy’s Haven, Freeform’s Shadowhunters and is currently a Co-Executive Producer on NBC’s New Amsterdam.

Shireen is an active member of the Writers Guild of America West, a board member of the Writers Guild Foundation and the co-founder and co-chair of the Think Tank for Inclusion & Equity, a consortium of working TV writers committed to increasing inclusion and improving working conditions for all TV writers, in particular those from underrepresented communities.
